FTM: Our Labor Story 📖

Sarah
At 39 + 1, we went for my regular weekly appointment. Unfortunately, my blood pressure was really high for the third week in a row, even after being on bed rest, and my doctor said the benefits of keeping me pregnant no longer outweighed the risks of inducing me.
We went straight to the hospital at about 4pm after our appointment where they gave me two doses of a cervix softening gel about 4 hours apart.  This gave me my bloody show and dilated me up to 6cm. At midnight they started the pitocin drip, labor started within the hour and my water broke at 2:40.
I labored - and labored. I tried my hardest to get through without the help of an epidural but after 4 1/2 hours of labor I couldn't take it anymore. I reluctantly agreed to the epidural at 5:00am when I was 80%effaced and 7cm dilated and it completely changed my experience for the better.
I was able to sleep through all of my contractions and was woken up at 9:00am as it was time to push. My pushing worked too well (lol) so they paced me to give the doctor time to get there for the delivery. Our little man made it out at 9:55am, weighing 9 lbs. 2 oz. and 21 1/2 in. long with less than an hour of slow pushing and less than 5 real pushes.
Unfortunately, he is having blood sugar issues and is in Neonatal Special Care. Here is hoping for the best and that his blood sugar stabilizes quickly so that he can stay with me.
Your stories have all been so special to me, hope I can do the same for some of you!
