Do you consider step-parents grandparents?

My husband bought a "the best dads get promoted to grandpa" shirt for his dad, but didn't want to do anything for his step-mom. My husband feels that this trip "is more for dad" and "she already has kids." We have a good relationship with both of them.

I think it depends on the family dynamic. 
If my father in law was to remarry in the near future his wife would just be "grandpas wife" ( my MIL passed a few years ago) but if my father in law had remarried when my husband was young than his wife would be grandma .

My step mom will be grandma. I don't call her mom I call her by her first name but my baby will not have a relationship with my birth mom so my peanut doesn't need to know the difference.

It depends, my husband's stepfather raised him and that's grandpa for sure, but my stepmother is not, even tho I know she wants to but it's too hard and weird to call her that especially because my mom is grandma! (Or glamma, as she likes to say!)

My husband mom passed away about 8 years ago, so I never met her. But his dad has been with this woman for the last 3 years, and my husband considers her as mom (Although no one could ever replace his mom). She's gunna be grandma to our daughter because she is family and is my husbands fathers other half.

Depends on the relationship he he doesn't feel it's needed that's his choice but I would ask now what does he expects your kid to call her and once he thinks about that he may change his mind or he may not

If they will love your baby as a grandchild and you want them to treat your child as they would their own grandchildren then you should. My stepfather has been my step father since I was in 4th grade. I dont call him dad but my kids call him Poppy as they would a grandfather. They see no difference. Blood doesnt mean crap in my family. Most of my blood relatives are shitty so I dont associate with them. My non blood relatives treat me the best. My husband has taken care of my other two children since they were little and they call him Daddy. Hes the only dad they know. Was the same with me when I was little. Think of your relationship and how you would feel if it was you? I think each situation is unique so its up to the couple :)

I think it depends on the relationship. If your husband is uncomfortable with her being called Grandma then she shouldn't be called that. Same way, if you had a stepmother that you're uncomfortable with your child calling grandma, he should respect your wishes. I'm comfortable with my stepfather being called grandpa so that's what he will be called, but my SO is uncomfortable with his stepfather being called grandpa so he'll be called by his name. If anyone tries to tell our son to call him grandpa we will quickly correct it because my SO does not deserve to be uncomfortable just because of his mother or stepfathers feelings.

My step dad has been with my mum for 32 yrs (never married) he is one hundred percent considered a grand parent in my eyes even tho I call him by his name, I think it depends case by case

All 8 grandkids refer to my stepmom as grandma and she acts exactly like a grandma should (she's very good to them). However my real mom passed away several years ago so the situation is a little different. It's the only grandma they have ever known since my mom died before any of the grandkids were born.
