Dilating without contractions?

Is that even possible? I'm a FTM I'm 35+5 weeks. I don't really even know what to expect lol I had Braxton hicks for 2 weeks straight without even knowing I was having them.

I went for my cervical exam yesterday at 37 weeks. The OB said "oh, you're having a contraction right now". I didn't even feel it! I've been feeling a little bit like my period is about to start for the last few weeks, but nothing to worry me or make me take notice.

If you're dilating but not feeling your contractions be super grateful! When you get into "active labor," the painful contractions that are an indication you are ready to give birth, you'll know.

I'm 35+4 with baby number 3. With my first 2 I never remember having any contractions until I went into "active labor." With #1 I was dilated to 5 and totally effaced when I got to the hospital with #2 I was dialed to an 8 and totally effaced.

Everyone is different but our bodies are amazing and totally equipped to give birth. For most women your body is already doing the prep work and you don't even know it.

The night I was induced, I was being monitored in triage (for my blood pressure). They were like,
"You're having contractions, do you feel those?" And I was like, "Not at all!" 😂 
Didn't start feeling them until the doctor broke my water. And then they got... Intense. Real fast. My daughter was born in 3 hours.

Many woman have such high pain tolerances that they don't even notice the contractions, I was in active labor with my first and didn't feel anything until I was 8 cm then I started to feel the pain but it was never bad to the point where I couldn't  move or anything like that. With this one I have to be checked earlier than 36 weeks because I probably won't even know if I've dilated at all due to the high tolerance.

I just had my first check of the cervix yesterday (38+5) and was barely at a 3. I haven't had any contractions yet, just the Braxton hicks. So I guess it is possible?

My coworker was 35 weeks and went for her regular checkup as normal. They checked her and said "you're 6cm - you need to go straight to the hospital." She had no idea. Kinda scary! Because my dr doesn't even check until 38 weeks. She would have never known if her dr didn't check her. She didn't feel any pain until it was time to push!

Over a week ago I was dilated to a 2 and haven't been having any contractions. I have a Braxton hicks every once in a while, but they are very infrequent.
