Anyone ever had an HSG done?

Hi. I'm wondering what it's like because my OB wants me to get one done.

It's kinda uncomfortable. I had one done to check my tubes. And unfortunately they got the catheter in and the X-ray machine wouldn't work. after ten mins of really bad pain they moved me rooms. Then it was over pretty quick they put the dye in to make sure there was no blockage. My doctor gave me results right away but a friend didn't find out for several days. I would take ibuprofen like 20 mins before you go in it helps with the cramping from what I was told and bring a panty liner because you will have some leakage. Good luck!!

It's not too bad. Take ibuprofen beforehand. It was painful (to me) for a couple minutes during the procedure when they inflate the catheter. But that's it!!  I was off that day but could have easily gone to work. Good luck!

I had one done and it was no more uncomfortable than a smear test. I was lying there about half an hour, really didn't feel much at all and got to watch the X-rays come up on screen as they took them. Afterwards the only discomfort I had was in my hips where I'd been lying legs open for so long! Felt absolutely fine during and after, if I needed another I wouldn't be worried. You'll be absolutely fine, good luck!

Just take some Motrin before or whatever pain killer they tell you is allowed. It's uncomfortable but no more than period cramps. Don't stress ☺

I had one done, and took the advil beforehand, but it was still kinda uncomfortable. Felt like a sharp pinch but didn't last for too long. The actual procedure was pretty quick I thought. I was pretty freaked out worrying about what if I bled all over the table, but they have towels to manage any of that, and nobody seemed concerned about that (I guess they're used to blood and stuff in the hospital lol). Afterwards was pretty sticky from the dye but they had a washroom so I could wash most of it off and just wore a pad after. Wasn't too bad after, just a little uncomfortable but not really painful. And my doctor told me the results immediately. They can see on the screen as they're doing it basically if the dye goes through the fallopian tubes or not. So if they don't tell you, just ask and see if they will say.
