Weight gain with Paragaurd ?

Question

I've had the IUD for a year now , and noticed I've put on some weight and its hard
For me to lose the weight ...

Has anyone had this problem? If so what do you suggest? Should I take it out .. I'm thinking of going that route but I would like advice first !!

Hormones in birth controls like the depo shot, mirena, ect often make us feel like were more hungry or hungry more often. Hense why we can gain weight. But paragard does not lead to any of those because it doesn't have any hormones. It could be argued that with longer periods, you may have more period symptoms like cravings- but that's a little silly. So most Lilley something else on your life is leading to the weight gain. Stress is a huge factor so try to be on the look out for how you react when stressed (maybe your eating schedule gets inconsistent, or you go out to eat more because you don't have the time or energy to cook) or other things in life that could have an effect on you. I would suggest not removing the paragard since its the only birth control that isn't connected to weight gain and changing to a hormone based birth control could make it worse for you

I've had my Paraguard for about 4 months now and I'm already seeing and increase in weight. Ive read that the copper in your blood stream can negatively impact the thyroid leading to hypothyroidism. This can cause you to gain weight, with difficulty losing weight. I'm considering having mine removed, as weight gain was my #1 reason for not taking hormonal birth control.

I'm the meantime, I'm taking a Zinc supplement to counteract the Copper in my system.
