Chemical pregnancy vs miscarriage

What exactly is the difference? I think I had a chemical pregnancy this month. I got positive pregnancy test, but then started bleeding (I assume it's just a lighter period, no cramping or anything) on the exact day I was supposed to start my period. I know it wasn't a faulty test because I took 3. So what is the difference between chemical and miscarriage? Just time?
