A day in the life of a teacher in the US? 😮

Question

If you are a teacher I'd love to hear what it's like. (Sorry, I know it's weird asking this on a pregnancy app haha but I figured it's worth a shot.) What are the best parts of your job, and what are the hardships that outsiders may not see? I am considering becoming a certified elementary school teacher in NJ soon, but I majored in something other than Education in undergrad so I'd have to take an alternative route through a certification program. Is it hard to get hired if you do not have a bachelor's in Elementary Education? Thanks in advance! 💕

I just completed my first year as a high school teacher.  I honestly love my job.  Yes, at times it was hard.  Teaching is not an easy job.  However, if you are called to do it, you know very quickly. There were times I doubted myself, but the biggest reward was the end of the year when students I never expected thanked me for motivating them and helping them.  If you're in it for the right reasons, the rewards outweigh the difficulties.

Side note, let's be realistic. I love teaching, but you probably will be over worked and over whelmed at times. I would suggest talking to teachers or observing in the areas you plan on teaching.  Circumstances vary from district to district and especially state to state.

I am a teacher. Next year will be my 3rd year teaching. I taught PreK last year, and 2nd grade this year. I teach in a 99% homeless and poverty stricken school district. 99% African American population. I would say the best part of my school day is reaching those students that others thought were unreachable. The hardest part is that you are not just a "teacher". You wear many hats; counselor, nurse, friend, mom etc.  It is sometimes difficult to get past all the stuff that these kids deal with to reach them academically. However, that being said it is also the most rewarding moment when you hear them doing something that you taught them whether academically, emotionally,
or socially. I don't know about the degree thing. Good luck!!

I love being a teacher! This will be my 5th year to teach and 4th year in 4th grade. The trick I have learned is to look on the positive side of everything. Make the kids think that you think they are the best and smartest class in the school and they will be by the end of they year. I had a non reader able to read chapter books and take ar tests by the end of the year but because I told him he could.
