How did you ladies feel about the new Roots that came out on Memorial Day? Did you watch it? I was kind of surprised by the amount of black people that were upset it got remade. I understand those images are hard to see but with our history being watered down I feel like we need it more than ever. I'm sure you guys saw the history books stating that Africans "migrated" to America to become "workers." I'm 21 and I feel like the new Roots was for people in my generation since I really didn't get a chance to learn anything about black history till I went to college. The most I learned through grade school is Lincoln freed the slaves, MLK was apart of the civil rights movement and Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat on the bus. I understand there's more to our history than slavery but we can't just sweep slavery under the rug like it never happened. I thought Roots was done amazingly. It made me feel so pissed off and sad mostly but I'm glad I got a chance to watch it. It just shows how strong our people are in the end.
