It identifies the amount of lh (lutenizing hormone) in your urine. About 12 to 36 hours before you ovulate it will be a lh "surge" in which case the test line (closest to the T) will be the same color or darker than the control (C) line. Then you should ovulate soon. You only need to test until you get that surge then quit for that cycle. You will almost always have some lh in your system and you will see it slowly get darker before your surge.

It's still not positive the control line has to be darker then the control line once ovulation is over your see a decrease in color with your test line
