Questions about metformin with PCOS

Today I was put on 500mg of metformin, to take 1 each day for a week and then 2 a day for a week and then 3 a day going forward. I was diagnosed with PCOS and I was just wondering how long it took some of you ladies to get pregnant? Side affects? Does it work? How long did it take you guys to get pregnant?
