Choosing a godparent?

What was everyone's reasons for choosing a god parent. In particular a godmother?  My cousin is being ridiculous bc my husband and I did not choose her to be our daughter godparent. It is stressing me out and I don't know how to get it through to her. A little of the story. She is 30 years old , no job, living at home with her parents, not attempting to find a job, spoiled by her daddy , and doesn't go out much. The person we chose... Established nurse, married and has 2 children  she is my husbands cousin and I think my cousin is resentful bc it is my husband brother and cousin and not her. I loose sleep over this she is saying she can't be around when the other cousin is around especially at the christening bc she can't handle it..... My husband and I chose those 2 people bc we know of God forbid somethings were to happen to either of us. They have the responsibility and knowledge to carry out our daughters well being. My cousin is making this all about her. Any advice would be appreciated

For us, a godparent doesn't mean that's the person who gets to be guardian of your child. Usually, the state gets involved in that case and the child will go to whomever they deem most responsible and financially able to raise the child.

My step children have different godparents mainly because my husband was military and each child was born far away from family. He is Catholic and godparents are chosen to be present at the baptism and to guide the child to follow the word of Christ. Good role models, really.

I haven't chosen anyone for our daughter yet, but I'm sure my husband's sister will be the best option.

We are not choosing god parents for our children, because it is a religious thing and we both are not religious people. We will however, be asking my husbands sister and her husband that if both my husband and i were to pass away if they would be willing to take care of our daughter. If they agree, we will put it in a will. We chose his sister because we feel she will be parenting very closely to how we will be parenting, as compared to my sisters who have a completly different style of parenting than we are choosing to do!

My son doesn't have a god mother which means my daughter won't either. They both have a god father. I picked my brother. Here is why! He's smart, amazing with children but strict so they won't grow to be trouble makers, he loves them unconditionally, he is ALWAYS there for me when I need him, he is the ONLY one who is always checking on us. Basically he is the most mature and responsible person I know and I know if something were to happen to my husband and I my children will be well taken care of. He has a wonderful job (he's worked there since he was 14 and he's now 26) has a place of his own & is good with money. I have no worries about my kids.

I picked my best friend....she owns her house....single mom....works her butt off to give her daughter everything she needs....she was by my side the whole time that I miscarried 2 years ago. She is always been there for me no matter what...and that's why I picked her to be the godmother of my baby girl....

Mine was by elimination... my husband's two best friends and my adopted sister all live in their parents home, have crappy jobs that hardly supports them, let alone a family. 
My best friend is living in her father's house who passed away 2 years ago. She lives off of his social security benefits and has refused to get a job even though her money runs out in august and she is totally fucked. 
My sister and brother in law constantly have no money, there trailer is a mess, they can hardly even keep up with their 6 dogs, 4 cats, and multiple other pets, so there's no way I'm sending my child to live there. (Plus they have been completely unsupportive of our pregnancy) 
So our choice is left up to my sister in law and her husband. They both have great jobs, have a beautiful house, and are self sufficient. However they live 4 hours away so it does make me sad to think our girl would grow up without the rest of her family being close. But they are our best option. Plus, we just found out they are expecting a baby in january!! So we are super excited about that! :)

It's weird but we used my parents for both my kids. I've been let down by so many friends and even other family members in the past and my parents have always been there for us. And do they ever love their grand babies!! My brothers godparents were their best friends and when that friendship ended it really sucked for him. I figure my parents would do a better job than anyone else!! 😊😊😊

We chose my husband's older stepbrother and his wife. They have 2 kids already and are amazing and loving parents. We know without a doubt if something horrible happened they would be the best pick to raise our son.

I choose my husbands nephew and his finance as my daughters god parents, they can't have children and I know they will be very much involved and can take care of her if ever needed. I would tell your cousin that if she can't act like an adult then she isn't welcome anyway.
