Washing brand new baby clothes?

I'm 31 and currently pregnant with #4 and I've never washed clothes that I've purchased before letting baby wear. Now my mom is saying that I should, she's never said it with any on my other kids. I've asked other family and friends with children and they didn't wash clothes either!

Maybe it's just my family, but my mom and i wash everything before wearing it. I just think it's gross. I am sure there are worse things in the world, however, washing baby items before wear seems essential. I dont want to wear something that has been hanging in a store, tried on by someone else, etc.

We're washing our brand new items. I just want them to feel fresh and clean and "mine" If that makes sense. Also, who knows what they came in contact with prior to being on my baby's skin. Just a personal preference.

I would wash them. I wash new clothes for myself. imagine all the other sweaty people who have touched and tried them on! I've watched a documentary and they tested brand new clothes from outlets and found all sorts of bacteria. also they use formaldehyde on clothing to keep them wrinkle free in the shops

You should wash all fabrics that will come into close contact with the baby before use. Fabrics are treated with various chemicals during the manufacturing process and residues of the chemicals remain on the finished articles. Babies have a high skin to body weight ratio so can absorb dangerous doses of chemicals through skin contact - some chemicals can cause short term irritation or reactions and others have long term health implications.  For the sake of a few loads of washing I really wouldn't risk it.

Always wash the baby clothes, because people step over them, and how they are transported... They get very dusty and nasty stuff we dont see in them.

Working in retail gives you a whole new perspective on "new" clothes. Always assume it was on the floor at some point.😔

I always wash the little baby stuff when it's new. The factories that makes the clothes use a lot of chemicals and the clothes get shipped through a lot of dust and stuff like that. It can be really irritating for that tiny baby skin. I don't usually do it until about a week or two before baby is due though so they are still fresh 😀

With my daughter i did if the clothes were second hand. Brand new stuff i didnt. I dont wash our brand new stuff now either. I'm not a worried person and our skin isnt sensitive.

I was everything before it is used when purchased. Clothes, dishes, bedding items, if you can wash it I do.
