Breastfeeding

Kassie • I'm Kass, me and my husband are expecting out firstborn son in May 2016. We love our little Nash Reagan Garcia 😘
I'm a first time mom, my son is three weeks old. I exclusively breastfeed, and was curious if I'm the only one dealing with this. My son prefers to nurse from my left breast.. Do any of you moms have a baby that has a preference? He latches fine from both sides, but he is squirmy and refuses to fall asleep while nursing on the right. Also, I try to have him nurse from both sides for the same length of time, but when I pump the left side will give me 3-4oz while the right is only 1-2oz. Is there something I should be doing differently?

Completely normal, you just have to make sure you still offer the right as you normally do because otherwise you might lose the supply on that side. One side often has a easier flow for baby or a better letdown. So they prefer the side they don't have to work so hard for the milk.

Haha my 2 mo old preferred my right more than left at first. Now it is the only one that really engorges after a full night of sleep. When it's engorged, she prefers the left...easier latch! Want to tell her sista it's your own fault! So I usually pump from right side and feed from left until it's not so full. Otherwise now she eats from the both sides equally.

Try the 'football' hold with your right breast! Perhaps it's just the way he prefers to lay. Worth a try!

That side might be too full for him. Try to pump a little then offer it.

Try holding him a different way to see if that helps. Definitely keep offering the one he doesn't like.

I think it's the way he likes to rest. When I sleep or lay down I always lay on one side too...it's just more comfortable.
