Straight from the horse's mouth!
My son is 6 months old and intact. (Not circumcised) my MIL has been insisting I get him circ'd for hygiene and health purposes. I tried to tell her that is wasn't needed, but she insist I ask his pediatrician.
So I went today for his 6 month check up and asked his pediatrician where she stated that circumcision is purely for cosmetic purposes and that he is not at a higher risk for any disease/infection. Furthermore, if it was medically important, it would have been suggested he get circ'd at the hospital shortly after delivery.
So yes, if you want to circ your son for cosmetic purposes, go for it! But let's stop saying that my son will be more prone to get penile cancer or HIV, because it's just not true.
