Finally home!
I went in to be induced on Monday, June 6th, and had a very quick and very painful delivery at 3:52 PM that afternoon. Lillian Owen was born weighing 4 lbs 14 oz and was 18 and 1/2 inches long.
She was full term at 39 weeks and 1 day, and we never really found out why she was so small, but because of her size, we had some issues. She wasn't maintaining her temperature and because she came out so quickly, she had swallowed some fluid and couldn't really get the hang of eating and that was affecting her temperatures, too, so she had to be admitted into the NICU. She was one of the healthiest babies there, but she still had a feeding tube for two days and remained in an incubator for almost a week. Everything about her was totally healthy and great, but they had to keep her as a precaution.
They had decided to finally release her on Tuesday of this week because everything was going great.. Or so I thought.
When I went in to deliver, I had began to develop preeclampsia. I was already being induced, so it wasn't that big of a concern to my doctor.. Until I was still having high blood pressure days after delivery.
They had initially discharged me after 72 hours at the hospital, even with my blood pressure consistently being at 140-150/90-100, and told me to follow up with my OB within a week.
The day before my daughter was supposed to be released, I had my appointment, and my blood pressure had reached up to 184/120, so I had to be admitted immediately and spent two days in the ICU while I was being given magnesium and fluids to try to bring it down to a more stable level. Since I was a patient at the hospital and not at home, they wouldn't release my daughter, either.
I spent over 48 hours away from my NICU baby, and it was torture. I knew she was healthy and in good hands, but that doesn't stop the helpless and hopeless feeling that this nightmare was never going to end.
Finally I was discharged late last night and got to board with my baby all night to take care of her like I would at home, and today around noon we got to go home to my husband and my other daughter, and I couldn't be happier or more relieved.
I have another appointment tomorrow with my OB for a blood pressure check, and my blood pressure was still pretty high when they discharged me, so fingers crossed I don't have to go through admission again!
But here's my little 5 lb 5 oz Lilly, who I love very dearly. 💕🌼
