Bugs?

Question

Has any one heard anything about bugs being in formula? It makes me rethink my decision about breastfeeding or not.

Well, there's always a possibility of bugs infesting any kind of powdery food.... pancake mix, flour, powdered sugar, powdered eggs... they like powder for some reason

The FDA sets standards for acceptable limits for 'unavoidable' contamination during food processing. Insect fragments are classified as an 'aesthetic problem'. It's pretty disturbing but nearly unavoidable in the US food supply. The 'food defect action levels'...look it up. Learned about it in school.

If you can...breastfeeding is always best :) if not try not to think about it cause at the end of the day baby needs to eat.

To each their own, but by giving your baby formula, you are potentially giving your baby the "allowable" amount of big pieces, rat hairs and feces, and accidental chloride additives. As a RN, I myself will be breastfeeding, and recommend to everyone breastfeeding. But again, it ultimately is your decision.

I have not, but, breast is always best---and I guarentee there won't be a recal on your boobs! If you're considering breastfeeding I highly encourage you to try it--and to find support in your local la Leche league or other breastfeeding group (my hospital has a breastfeeding center and weekly breastfeeding support groups!)---you can always start breastfeeding and if you decide not to continue for whatevervreason, can stop---but if you don't start at the beginning, you never get that chance back. I planned on bf my first babe until she was one---she's now almost 3 and still drinks milk before bed (I'm 8 weeks pregnant with my 2nd). It's been an incredible bond that has kept her very healthy--especially during flu season!

Can I just say, I gave my baby formula and she's an exceptionally smart, healthy, wonderful child. Did I want to breastfeed her? Yes, but after months andof pumping my brains out I finally switched to formula and have no regrets. Of course do your research and pick one that you feel comfortable with but really, your baby will be fine 😊 We used enfamil gentlease btw. Stop shaming each other Mommas, good grief! Good luck 💗

I don't know but as a child I once opened a container of Carnation hot chocolate powder and there were all these little white worms crawling in it. I didn't drink hot chocolate for like a year. I'm going to breastfeed but if I can't at any point then I will reluctantly use formula.

I've heard it too. I can only formula feed my baby. I'm unable to breastfeed, so I kinda have to use formula. It's completely up to you. I always made sure the seal was completely on and checked the powder first! For the women on here saying how bad it is, it's not. Some women can't breastfeed and some have that option to. Don't let negative comments discourage you from doing what you want. Everyone has their own opinions.

Every commercial product runs the risk of being spoiled or contaminated (by bugs, animals, metal, chemicals, etc.) If you're worried, try breastfeeding.
