Help? I get embarrassed easily :/

I love my new boyfriend so much, and I LOVE when he calls me pet names...as long as no one else is around. Today he called me my pet name (kitten) in front of one of his friends and I don't think I liked it? It made me SUPER embarrassed, and I was worried that his friend would just see me as "the girlfriend" and not another person...
