Did I mess up???!!

Question

My baby is three days old and I've tried for two hours to get her to latch and she just can't so I pumped what I could and gave it to her in a bottle. Have I ruined any chance of her ever latching again!?

You didn't mess up, but see if you can find a lactation consultant through your doctors office or hospital

All you need to do is see a lactation consultant. It look 3 of my 4 guys a little extra help to finally grasp the idea of latching on and nursing from the breast. Don't give up.  No matter how experienced or not you are, you and your nursing buddy can always stand to learn a few tricks or tips from a qualified lactation consultant.

What work for me for my baby to latch on was the nipple shield, a month later i have no need of using it since my little one is comfortable now

My baby had a very rough start and came to this world through vacuum extraction, she had a huge bump on her head and she couldn't suck on my breasts as it gave her bad headache. I had no choice but to give her the bottle, her first 4 days of feeding was of formula. Afterwards, I had super engorged breasts, sore and broken nipples, so I postponed breastfeeding again and only pumped. On her second week I started trying breastfeeding again, I'm now 6 weeks pp and my baby drinks pumped milk and latches on my breast without a problem. She's a happy baby.

Don't worry about it, just keep trying!

OMG no! My baby was in the NICU, the nurses have him a bottle and he nurses like a champ now. Plus he takes bottles of pumped milk. Bottle feeding doesn't negate breast feeding. Keep at it!

Don't give up. Just keep trying and try when you know they are hungry. It took me 8 weeks to get my son to latch and once he did we were able to nurse until he was 10 months old (he ended up having a lot of teeth!)

My baby had a hard time latching when he was born. He was tongue tied & after getting it fixed he still didn't want to latch. I exclusively pumped & gave him a bottle. I thought he would never latch again but I always tried before giving him the bottle. Untile one day a few days before he became a month old I tried to latch Jim before a bottle & he latched I was soo happy. Ever since He has been latching but I still give him the bottle maybe 2-3 times a day. Don't give up continue to try. You never know your baby might learn to latch so you can breastfeed again!!

No. I exclusively pumped from day 7 to 14 of her life to let myself heal and she had no problem latching again. I use bottles and breastfeed now and she goes between the two easily

It'll be fine, but see a lactation nurse if you're able. If you can't access one, contact the local La Leche League person and oftentimes they'll send someone to your house to help you for free (or the small membership fee).
