I think its good to have a healthy balance of what you have in your life as best as you can.

My children comes first. My actions reflect on my children. My life literally revolves around my children, I wouldn't even have a life without them. My main goal In life is to do everything I can to take care of them and make sure they make it. Once they are old enough and move out of my house then it'll be different, but until then yes a parents life should revolve around their child.

If you have children, your family should be your main priority. 
Other things like work and hobbies should be second or third + in your life.
