My boyfriend never tells me I'm pretty

I've been dating a guy for a year and a bit. When we first started dating, he didn't use my real name because he was always calling me "Beautiful" instead. A few months ago I battled a bout of depression and gained a noticeable amount of weight. (I'm 5'6 and 155 where before I was 120ish) My boyfriend has not told me that I am pretty since before I gained the weight. I'm not usually needy like this, but I've been working really hard to get the weight off and sometimes I dress up for him and do my makeup real nice and I get nothing from him! I even asked him one night if there is something I wear or a way I do my hair that he really likes and he just shrugged it off and said "I don't care." Our physical relationship has slowed down a good bit too. Can I ask my boyfriend to tell me that I'm pretty? I know I shouldn't need his validation, but I'm starting to think he doesn't find me attractive anymore...
