Male vs. Female doctors

Stephanie

I have no problem with male doctors at all and I go to a practice with both male and female doctors and any of them could be the one there at delivery. But I'm curious if anyone else has had this experience... I've seen mostly female doctors during my pregnancy and they've all said my weight gain is totally fine. Today I had my 30 week appointment and have gained about 27 pounds total, only 3 in the past month. I saw a male doctor for the first time. And for the first time he mentioned my weight gain and said to watch my portions. Which is totally fine! That doesn't bother me at all because he's probably right. If we're going by the book on how much weight you should gain, I'm probably a few pounds ahead. So I don't hold it against him for bringing it up. But it's interesting to me that the female doctors, who have all been pregnant themselves before, have said I was doing fine. The one female doctor even wrote her doctoral thesis on weight gain during pregnancy so I feel like she would mention it if she thought I was gaining too much.

I guess I'm just wondering if maybe females are more understanding of the whole process and tend to give you a bit more leniency when it comes to weight gain.
