10 weeks and crusty????

Y'all. I'd understand if I was close to the due date and had crusty stuff on my nipples. But I am only 10 weeks, just noticed this. Does anyone know why? Google is not helping me.

Im studying to become an IBCLC( internationally board certified lactation consultant) and one of the coolest things ive learned is that the milk youre producing now does have nutritive value, so if you wanted to start pumping or hand expressing milk in the coming months and storing it for your babe when theyre born, you can! This can be incredibly helpful while you're waiting for your milk to come in!  That said human milk has a shelf life of 3-6 months in a normal refrigerator freezer, with a separate door, and 6-12 months in a deep freezer. (In general the milk is still fine if its consumed after that period, but some of the fats will start to break down) 😉

I had that crusty layer around 9 weeks and now i am 11 weeks... My nipples are back to normal. May be thats just due to hormonal changes.

You can start producing colostrum at any point. I started at 14 weeks with my last pregnancy. It'll continue and progress until you have the baby :)

I've had this crusty stuff forever! I remember getting it like halfway through my first pregnancy and it never went away. My oldest is 5!! It grosses me out and I try not to think about it. When I first got it I was freaked!!
