I'm proud of our gender roles
There is great change coming, it's already happening. With further acceptance of members of the LGBTQIA+ community, there's a greater understanding of "gender" and just how fluid it is. With this understanding, there seems to be a shift in gender roles- or perhaps gender roles are disappearing altogether.
While acceptance of the LGBTQIA+ community is phenomenal, and while women are being heard and some nasty gender roles are disappearing (again, phenomenal), I'm afraid in the next 20 years or so we're going to lose some incredible parts of being a woman.
As a woman, I am naturally more nurturing than my male counterpart. I am curvier, I am gentler, I'm more emotionally in tune with others. I love wearing dresses that reach the floor, and wearing my sweet baby in the moby wrap while wearing one of my long dresses makes me feel like a goddess. I love to look at my beautiful body and embrace the curves that produce life, and the breasts that sustain it.
I don't want my girls someday to miss out on what it means to be a woman because society says they're wrong for embracing their gender's roles. Of course, today women are NOT told that they're wrong for being a woman- not at all. But I fear that's what this may turn into. I fear that for the sake of a relatively small percentage of the population, we will sacrifice all gender roles and miss out on some incredible, beautiful, empowering roles that women get to play simply because they are women.
