Running while pregnant

KP
Hello, so I used to be a big time runner, but since finding out I'm pregnant I stopped. I have been so afraid to run, but I miss it so much! Is it safe to run while pregnant? How long can I run, if it's okay? Any advice is welcome. Thank you!

I am a runner my doctor said it was okay to keep doing what I'm doing but no more, but if you get out of breath you need to walk and don't push yourself just take it easy.

Yep. Totally safe. I haven't ran in 3 weeks because I feel too crappy but I'm hoping to run on Saturday. Just don't push yourself to the limit. You may feel more out of breath so just slow up your pace. Good luck! 😄

Most people say keep doing what you were doing which I agree with unless you body tells you to slow down. I am a competitive volleyball player and asked my doctor since I can't play right now due to high impact if I could run and i used to run long distance, and he said he doesn't recommend it. He said it is proven runners (mainly long distance) have the highest probability of low weight and premature babies...so I would say play it by ear maybe dial it back if you don't want to completely stop, but you need to do what feels best for your body everyone is different:)

You should ask your dr. But honestly in my opinion you shouldn't have stopped. The healthier you are the healthier the baby is. Also easier delivery and healing process after baby.

Definitely safe, just listen to your body and don't overdo it!

I am also a runner. I ran 6-10 miles a day before getting pregnant then once I was pregnant I was too exhausted until week 13 to run. But once I felt good I was back to running 3-6 miles a day. I ran 3 miles a day up to 7 months the. Cut to 1-2 until I was 8 months, by then I had to pee every time I started running because baby was pressing constantly on my bladder that I had to stop and walk. As long as you arent ever really really out of breath, don't get dehydrated (I carried a water bottle with me), and generally feel good then keep going. It's a proven fact that babies whose mothers exercised while pregnant were leaner, smarter, and generally more healthy. Sometimes when I was 7-8 months I'd feel co reactions when I ran but I just drank water, made sure my breathing was good and they'd stop. Also consult your dr first and listen to your body.

Oh and I'm now 9 weeks with baby #2 and running a little with jogging stroller. I'm not quite back into shape after my first kid but I love running so usually only 2 miles a day this time around

If you were doing it before you can do it now!

I'm also a runner but have felt so sick that it's not an option right now. I say keep running unless your body tells you otherwise! Good luck momma!
