Frozen Embryos
Here's the situation: you and your partner are having a very hard time conceiving naturally. After 2 years of trying, you two decide to turn to IVF treatments. His sperm and your eggs are put together in a test tube (forgive the lack of better term) and form 10 live embryos. 2 are placed in your womb, the other 8 are left frozen. 9 months later, you have a beautiful baby girl. When Baby Girl is 5 years old, you decide you'd like another child. So 2 more embryos are placed in your womb and you give birth to twins.
Now you have 3 children and 6 frozen embryos, however your family is full and you don't want anymore children.
What do you do with the 6 frozen embryos? They have complete sets of DNA, essentially they have everything they need for life (except you, their mother). Some would argue that they're humans with as many rights and you and I. But on the contrary, they have valuable stem cells that could be donated and used to help cure a limitless number of diseases and ailments. Or they could be donated to other parents who cannot conceive naturally. Another option is to simply throw them away.
Keeping the embryos isn't an option, as the cost to keep them frozen is too high. What do you do??
