Newborn moving a lot during sleep time

Trang
My five week old doesn't sleep much. As in a previous post I do whatever I can to soothe him but. I thing is working. I move him into diff rooms and setting so that he can calm down and not be fussy and try to sleep. I hold him to get him into sleep
Mode then as soon as I put him down he goes into active sleep mode where he's majorly moved arms legs and jerks around every few mins for couple hours and ends up waking himself up because he can't go into deep sleep which then he's upset and super fussy. I hear other moms who say their newborn sleeps great or around the clock and mind he's the opposite he doesn't sleep.je eats well, poops well wets his diaper well... Is clean and is from what I know is healthy

You should swaddle him my baby would do that but when he was swaddled he would sleep for a long time...they have no control over there body so they get scared at the movement there hands make leading them to hit there little faces ....

Mine hates swaddling too... And I thought for a while all the moving and noises he made meant he was awake and not deep sleeping. I was wrong as soon as he got to the big crib and own room he sleep soundly and so did we. He slept better bc we weren't messing with him thinking he was awake...

At 5 weeks old i ended up puttin lo in his cot in his own room. He liked to move alot in his sleep & would bash the sides of the moses basket & wake up. From first night in cot in own room he woke twice!! He was still waking for feeds every 2 hours down to twice a nite. At just over 2 and a half months dropped to once a night. He started sleeping thru the night at 16 weeks. Apart from the week he had his jabs but thats to be expected

Mine is sleeping in a co sleeper on my bed so we are side by side... I can lay him on my lap and he sleeps peacefully. Maybe once a week there's a day where I feed and burp and he falls alseep and I'll lay him down in his co sleeper and he's fine but everyday is unpredictable

Congrats on your bundle of joy! According to the book Baby Wise, 5-week-olds should be getting about 5 hours of nighttime sleep. Their bodies need more fuel after that amount of time, so I wouldn't worry about sleeping through the night yet. There should still be 1-2 nighttime feedings. Ideally there would have been 2 to start (as a newborn) and around now, those 2 should become just 1 feeding. I highly recommend the book! I'm a FTM, due in July. My sister-in-law swears by this book and her daughter was sleeping through the night at 10 weeks.

He's taking about 3 ounces and sometimes won't even finish his milk... Which is another thing since he will only drink the pre made ready to drink formula... So I will pour what I think he will drink... To get him full to sleep thru the night

It sounds like he's not getting enough ounces at each feeding

I bought Swaddle Pods for our twins. Going to try them tonight. I'll let you know how they work. Both babies jerk all night. Summer Infant makes them.

Wow my experience was very different from everyone else's apparently! At 5 weeks I was trying to get him to sleep at night period. Forget through the night, we're talking at all. I eventually got him to sleep at night by going into the bedroom, dimming lights, putting on white noise machine and feeding him. He finally went to sleep so I let him sleep in my arms (wasn't for too long since he wanted to eat every 2-3 hours). I did that a few times a night for a few nights, basically as long as I could be sure that I was still awake to hold him, and that helped him get the point that night time is for sleep! It's sure not a long term solution but after a few days of that I was able to lay him down instead of holding him. At first he was still up every 2-3 hours to eat/get a diaper change but those stretches got longer and longer over time. Good luck! Hang in there!

I'm still going thru it he will sleep in my arms but put him down and he'll sleep for 15 mins and gets startled and cries like crazy. Basically my baby isn't sleeping much maybe like 2 hours on and off thru the night and eats like almost 1 1/2

We were having the same issue when we used the bassinet. Baby girl hated being flat on her back. I started putting her in the napper that came with the pack and play and she started sleeping much better. It's set on a bit of an incline. I just bought the rock and play as well and from what a lot of ppl have told me this works well also.

Yes I had to incline it a little bit. I have a co sleeper that fits in my bed and is perfect.

What we tried and worked sometimes was using a swaddle me wrap. I'd rock him for a little bit and give him a paci and then place him swaddled in his swing. Only time he'd really nap besides being held.

Also he's been sweating like crazy so swaddling him is going to drive him crazy

Rebecca omgoodness if he would only take the pacifier... He doesn't like it lol

Re

You could try a pacifier dipped in a little sugar water. That was what kept my daughter calm when she was transported between hospitals when she was at the NICU
