Birth control (sprintec) and sex

Okay, so I just recently started Sprintec at the beginning of my last period. A week in, I started spotting off and on, and it was a dark color. My boyfriend and I had sex for the first time in a while for almost an hour and a half. My spotting stopped for a few days, and then began again, this time, a lighter color. Is this normal? I have about 5 pills left until the placebos. Has anyone else had heavy spotting when starting Sprintec?
