Do real contractions stop?!

3rd baby but always been induced...

I woke up at 4:30 this morning (38w2d) with intense pelvic pressure. I couldn't go back to sleep and the feeling was coming and going, so I started timing.

I was sure they were contractions, but they were only 12-15 min apart. Now I don't feel much besides discomfort. Were those real contractions?

That sounds like prodromal labor. They are real contractions that cause cervical changes but it's not "real" labor. I did that for several days with my 2nd :( but, every contraction before labor is one less contraction during labor :)

They could have been. I had some intense contractions last weekend but they stopped after an evening. With my first I woke up with contractions that were 15 mins apart, then 10, then 8, then 10 again, them 3, then 30, then 15... They went back and forth like that all day (12 hours later) before getting 4 mins apart for an hour straight. Then during labor they'd get closer, then space back out again. I had a long labor and during pushing my uterus was getting exhausted and my contractions spaced back out to every 15-20 mins, sometimes longer. That's when we transferred to the hospital and I was given a little pitocen to keep things going while the doctor assisted with a vacuum. But in my birth book there's mention of early labor possibly starting and stopping over the course of a few days, before it gets going and stays going. It's supposed to be normal and just your body preparing for the birth in its own way.

I had a few hours of painful regular contractions that started my dilation last week. They've stopped by themselves. I guess I can't call them real since they didn't end in delivery but they definitely were more than uncomfortable. I have a decent threshold for pain. Didn't cry in real labor last time and cried through some of these.

For my first I had contractions for about 4 hours and the. They seemed to go almost away and then restarted a few hours later again. Idk how normal that is
