My newborn is constipated what do I do.??!

My 3 week old son hasn't pooped all day.! Since like yesterday mid day. He's been in a bad mood all day n I see him pushing but all he does is pass gas. I think its because I breastfed him for 2 weeks straight n recently like 2 days ago I started giving him infamil formula because I feel I don't fill him up with my milk at all so now I kinda do both but slowly want to just switch him to Similac formula. I'm worried I don't know what to do

Rub his tummy in a clockwise pattern. Put a moderate amount of pressure where he won't be uncomfortably but enough to stimulate his GI tract. Start at the bottom left hand corner (your left) glide your fingers up towards his rib cage, then across to the right side, then down.

Also, have him lay on his back. Grab his ankles, bend his legs and rock his knees up towards his chest. Continue a nice gentle rocking motion.

I do this to babies all the time and it usually helps them pass gas as well as a bowl movement.

I would try the exercises suggested by others. They work for my boys, 14 months and 3 months. With you switching from BF to formula that's going to mess with his tummy. Don't give him water/juice. He's way too young!

So don't quote me! But maybe look it up...I've recently read that newborns could go up to week without pooping. That may just be on breastmilk....I'll have to see if maybe I can find it again. But try not to worry quite yet.

Kyro syrup with the milk online it will show exactly how much. I breastfeed my daughter until she was old enough to eat and My daughter got constipated for 2 days and I knew it wasn't normal so I called her dr. Yes it is ok if your child doesn't but I didn't feel comfortable. So my dr said 1 teaspoon or tablespoon with 1 oz would loosen it up. I've never used any suppositories. I know their is a brand that your newborn can use but idk what it's called.

It may be gross to the first timer, but you can gently use the tip of a lubricated thermometer to help things along. I had to do it a few times with my last baby. The thought of it was scary & gross for me at first but once I saw how it helped him, I was a pro!

Give him a bath in warm soapy water.

It is normal for a baby, especially EBF to go for a week without pooping. Unless your baby has solid poops, you have nothing to worry about.

Also, do not give a baby that young water or juice! Their systems cannot handle it.
