Overreacting or is this normal?

My daughter is EBF and she will be a month old on July 7th. Everytime she eats, she will unlatch & gasp for air. She coughs just to catch her breath and then cries because I guess it scares her. I don't know if I have a fast letdown that makes her choke and takes her breath or if her sphincter that separates her stomach/lungs isn't properly working. I am scared she is going to choke one day and not catch her breath back. This happens at every feeding. Please help!

That sounds pretty normal and is probably due to a fast letdown. If you can feel yourself let down, unlatch right when it happens and spray into a burp cloth. Then relatch when the milk slows down

I've been told from a LC that its a fast let down. Your baby will adjust to your flow, it just takes some time! My daughter does the same thing; not at every feeding but quite frequently. She just needs to get used to your flow!

My dd did that a lot. I know I had a really fast let down and produced a ridiculous amount of milk so she really was choking. If she's not breathing, throw her over your arm and pat her back until she's breathing. Or blow in her face.

Does she does when she is not feeding at all? Or fuss after eating? My son has reflux and choked and sputtered during feedings before we figured out what was going on.

My son is doing this as well, and yes, his nose is not getting covered. He is my second baby and because of other things going on, I suspect he has silent reflux and I intended to mention in the his doctor.

Could be her nose being covered but also my daughter forgets to breathe while eating and does he same thing only she cries because she still hungry 😂

Definitely check to make sure her nose isn't being covered. I have to look out for that because my chest is so big. But it might be that you have a fast letdown. This would happen to my LO if I had to give her a bottle.

Are you making sure her nose isn't being covered even a little bit and she's not suffocating herself that way?
