First preggo Dr. appt today! Any advice?

Question

Going to see the doc for the first time today! She's also my OBGYN so what any advice before I get there? I'm about 5 weeks pregnant (as far as I know from my last period) and I want to make sure I'm asking all the right questions. Any advice?! Thank you in advance!

Don't stress it! There's really no such thing as the right questions, as long as your asking questions. And don't feel bad if you think of something after the fact. You can always call or ask at another appointment (there will be plenty). At my first appointment I was excited and kind of in shock that I forgot to ask questions half the time.  But congrats! I goes by so stinking fast so enjoy it!

Prepare like you would for a yearly. But listen to what they say and ask questions before leaving.... How does your placenta look if they give an ultrasound... How's the baby look for its age.... Do you have reason to be concerned about anything..... So on and so forth.

Thats awesome theyre taking you so early! Our first appt wasnt until 9w3d, but we got an ultrasound too (you cant really see anything until like 6 weeks, and heartbeat like 7-8 weeks). From my experience, theyll probably do your papsmear if you hadnt had one recently (i had mine three months prior and was fine, didnt need another), theyll do some bloodwork, and then go over what to expect and give you a pregnancy packet explaining appts, what you can/cant have, etc. I wouldnt really eat for 2 just yet though lol! Our doc stressed that its really only an extra 500 calories a day and thats starting in the second trimester, which is like one sandwich and you dont start gaining weight until then either. Some people use pregnancy as an excuse to eat and end up gaining 50 lbs which is excessive. Im expecting twins, and Ive actually lost 12 lbs but it was weight I needed to lose from our first, because I was one of those people lol. I was upped to eat 2800 calories a day (10w3days), but there are zero empty calories.... no sweets, no sodas or sweet coffees, no fast food, etc, and still losing weight. Just goes to show how poor my diet was before haha! Most people lose the first trimester and then gain 15lbs their second trimester, and 15lbs their third, and thats completely healthy. Congrats on the pregnancy!
