Temping Vaginally

For tracking BBT, you have a few options for the different ways you can take your temperature. You can take your temperature orally, vaginally, or even rectally. Most women temp orally, but because of certain issues (like mouth breathing) some women find that temping vaginally offers more consistent, clearer results. Keep in mind that vaginal or rectal readings will give you higher temperatures than oral readings.

When temping vaginally, make sure that the thermometer is inserted into your vagina and not just touching the outside or resting on your labia. It doesn’t have to go in very deep - just the tip has to be inside to get an accurate BBT reading. Some women find that it’s a little harder to hear the thermometer beep so keep that in mind as you’re waiting for your reading to complete. And it’s also probably helpful to wear bottoms that will be easy to pull down (the less fidgeting, the better).

Remember, it doesn’t really matter which of the 3 methods you use - orally, vaginally, rectally are all fine choices. But the important thing is to not switch methods in the middle of your cycle. The key to accurate BBT tracking is consistency!
