Aggressive Nurser

Does anyone else have a baby who nurses aggressively??? My LO is 7 weeks and just recently started smacking and clawing at the breast. She also loves to latch on and pull at the nipple like its a rubber band! I can take the smacking but the tugging really hurts and is leaving my nipples in a lot of pain!  I can't tell if that's just the way she likes to eat or if she's trying to tell me something. Anyone have similar experiences? I should probably just bite the bullet and contact the hospital's lactation consultant.
