Lesbo baby shower ideas

My partner and I live in a small town right now. Everyone we know here is straight. Our gay friends are scattered all over the country. They wouldn't be able to come to a baby shower. So we kind of don't want to have one. I just feel like straight couples have such a different experience while expecting and being parents that we can't relate. Plus I think opening gifts in front of a crowd is embarrassing. I hate stuffy parties where everyone dresses in pastels. Just ugh. I think if some of our queer friends were nearby I would feel differently. My mom and one of our friends are both pushing the shower idea. I want to celebrate but not in the stale traditional way. Ideas?
