People will always find something to complain about 🙄 no, he's not obese, but they did enhance most of the key physical features of a Polynesian man/child (idk which one he's supposed to be) and that's normal. They like to exaggerate things like that. Bottom line is, get over it or ignore it. Stop trying to ruin the movie I'm excited about!

First of all, he's not obese. He's a large barrel chested, wide shouldered man. That to me looks like muscle instead of fat so it's really interesting to see how society views larger men. People need to just chill, you can't have stick thin Disney princess and then throw a ft about an 'obese' character promoting unhealthy body images.

I think this has already been a topic, but it's interesting. People complained that there's only one Disney princess body type, and now they're going to try and get Disney to police their male  characters? How bogus.

You do realise that the people who are shaming it are from that culture right? They are saying they are promoting him as a stereotype, saying Polynesian people are usually big and fat. Disney is saying he's a demigod with a big build... but the Polynesians are disagreeing and saying nowhere in Maui's legends do they day he looks like that. 
You should do research before trying to start something.

I think the people generally annoyed are Polynesian people. I can understand the frustration when you finally get a smidge of representation but you don't feel like it's flattering or even worse that is perpetuates a negative stereotype.
