Different political views?

My SO and I have different political views. I'm a democrat and he's republican. We got into a heated argument once over it and now we just don't talk about politics. Do any of you have different political views than your SO? And has it caused problems in your relationship?

Both my bf and I hate politics and don't care to discuss them. We don't even vote. His dad on the other hand...good lord like shut up. Lol

My husband was a conservative Christian when we were dating (just like his whole family). I've been a very liberal atheist/Wiccan for years and we've always known our differences. If he would say something offhanded I would call him out on it and tell him I need him to factually back up what he wants to prove. No arguments. Usually he couldn't. I let him have his beliefs though and he did the same for me. No trying to change anyone but discussions were had and facts had to be used. No name calling or hate. Eventually he started asking me about my liberal views and I explained the best I could and he now identifies democrat. I didn't pressure him, I just let him decide in his own time. If he was still republican that would be fine too. He is also now agnostic (nothing to do with me actually. Just his own questioning). No difference should effect a relationship. Allow the other person to have his own beliefs and respect that even when you don't agree. But make sure if an argument breaks out you set rules and talk like adults about facts. Not made up conspiracy bs.
