Can anyone describe a contraction pain?

I imagine a contraction feeling like you have really really bad stomach ache, can anyone explain one? As I am probs totally wrong :-) thanks

I'm wondering the same thing! The answer I get from friends is "don't worry, you'll just know"... I sure hope so!!

With my first pregnancy I just remember looking at the monitor watching the contraction number getting higher and higher and saying to myself please stop please stop please stop lol the number then starts to go down and you can almost relax and get yourself ready for the number to go back up again

For me they feel like a tightening that starts about mid belly and works its way down. Then I get a sharp pain in the vag area and my whole tummy gets hard. Also during all that you get sort of period type cramps in your lower belly.

Real contractions will get stronger and last longer and get progressively closer together.

The only way I can explain it is imagine the worst period cramps you have ever had but it is your whole stomach.

For me contraction emanate around your belly button and move downwards. At the beginning they aren't that painful, just twinges of pain in your stomach. As they get closer together they are stronger.

It is like waves of cramps wrapping around d your whole stomach that come and go. It took my breath away at times but it was also very exciting because it meant my baby was coming and I just focused on that thought i smiled despite the pain and was so happy to hold my boy in my arms. Don't be too afraid of the pain, it is hard to prepare yourself for a pain you've never felt but it will all be ok, and it will be well worth it.  Your body is made for this and knows what to do, you don't even have to push your body does it all on its own, it is pretty amazing. Mine felt like mild period cramps that were just enough to keep me awake after the first few.  I ran to the bathroom every 5 minutes too because I felt pressure and thought I was gonna have diarrhea.

I had back labor with my first so I am only speaking from current experience but with this one my whole stomach tightens up and I have a lot of pressure up around the bottom of my ribcage.  I was on a monitor today and they were going up to 50-75 in intensity which it pretty high.  So I imagine birth will be the same but with the same intensity i feel in the rib area right now....all over.  I hope this helps.
