Can someone help me out here? I don't know what contractions are. I don't know. I've had an awful pain in my hips. I feel like they're being sawed in half. I hope this is the start of something...😓

Contractions are your uterus contracting, so they will feel like a tightening and shortening of your uterine muscles. The muscle contracts in a wave, top to bottom, so they'll start off dull and uncomfortable then reach a peak where the whole muscle is working, then fade as the muscle releases. At first you may not even notice them. As the muscle starts to work harder the strength of the muscle tightening up will be a bit more noticeable. You may feel the need to stop walking or talking while the muscle is working, and just lean over and relax your body until it finishes and starts fading away again. You might feel a lot of extra pressure low in your pelvis. That's the uterus pulling your cervix open, and the baby's head helping by applying pressure. You might also feel a lower back ache from that same pressure. You can have the backache without feeling the uterine contractions, or the uterine contractions without a backache, or feel both.

Answer

Hip pain is likely sciatica. Baby dropping can aggravate it. Sciatica can be very painful. Contractions are a squeezing feeling with a noticeable start and stop after a few seconds that come and go in a noticeable pattern.
