Single mom?

Question

What is your definition of a single mom? I was told just because your in a boyfriend/girlfriend relationship doesn't mean your not a single mom. I understand this but I think if your not living with the father, or married then yes that would make single mom.. But I know it also plays a part if the father is inactive or you take care of the child mostly with minimum help from the father. What do you guys think?

being a single parent  has absolutely 0 to do with relationship stats.. a single parent is someone who has 0 support mentally physical  or emotionally.. or all of the above with the upbringing of the joint child. if you have support you are not  single parent. you are a mother who happens  to be single

Agree with the other post, if you have help from the father then you're not a single mom. If you don't have no help from the father and there not in the picture then your single mom.

I was a single parent with my first child and to me a single parent is one who does most everything on their own!! No help from the father emotionally, financially, or physically!! My sons father left me when I was 14 weeks pregnant with my first child and then decided he wanted to get back with me a month later but we didn't get back together until I had my son! We did not live together and only saw each other 4 days a week if that and when we did get to see each other I was still doing everything waking up with my son at night, feeding home, changing him, soothing him when he was upset, and getting his bags ready when we would go anywhere. Fortunately I had help from my parents when it came to getting a break at times but I still was the main provider for my son!! That to me is a single parent!! Fortunately I met my husband when my son was a year and half old and now my son calls him daddy and we are expecting another boy on the 15th of August!! Good things always come out of the worse situations!!

Being a single parent to me is single parenting with no other help from your ex or a partner, nothing to do with your relationship status. I considered myself a single parent pretty much a year after I had my daughter even though her dad was living with us and I was married to him then, but I was the only solely making sure she had everything she needed. He was more worried about his drugs and alcohol. When I left him and eventually got with my boyfriend I still considered myself a single mom. Now a few years later my boyfriend has practically adopted her and does more for her than she could ever need or ask for, so now I dont consider myself a single mother anymore.

I believe a single parent is a mother or father that is not in a relationship. I was a single parent for 3 years of my sons life. His dad got him on his weekends. I then married my now husband when my son was 3. (5 years ago) so no longer am I a single parent.
