PCOS(?)
Hello friends, I've got a question for those who have PCOS: how did you get diagnosed and what were your symptoms?
I'm 21 years old and have had really irregular periods these last two years or so. It was my second semester of freshman year in college and I missed a period for an extended time, it was something like 3 months late. Obviously wasn't worried about being pregnant but couldn't go to the doctor because my mom had just lost her job and thus insurance issues-- I've never been able to talk to my mom about all this very well but mostly I didn't say anything so as not to worry her more.
Anyway, I'll try to wrap this up as I know I'm a bit of a rambler, I was 3 months late and then 3 months late again and so on except the longest I've gone now was almost 5 months. I finally talked to her and was able to see a doctor and he was super unhelpful and called me a hypochondriac but have me medroxyprogesterone which gave me a period but I haven't resumed since then (4 months).
I am overweight now - I was always a little bigger just in stature and all and my doctor at the time reassured me I was at healthy weight despite bmi- and I figured it was the college weight. However I honestly don't eat too bad and when I'm home I have an especially healthy diet.
I have also noticed a lot of facial and body hair that I didn't used to have, that didn't necessarily come with puberty.
Anyway, at this point I'm not sure what to do and I'm frustrated and afraid for my reproductive health. The doctor basically said he thinks my issues are because I'm fat but I'm not crazy overweight and exercise regularly- I've lost weight but with no change. He gave me those pills, and did a hormone panel once which he said weren't too off in range, but I've read that those have to be done multiple times to track changes?
Thanks for listening 🙂
