This is my old cat who passed away last years. She was a Persian and she was AMAZING with kids! Never hissed or scratched. 
This is my new cat! She is a Himalayan and she is also wonderful with kids! She is like a dog, if more than one kid comes up to pet her she rolls onto her back so you can pet her tummy! I LOVE cats!

I've always been raised around lots of animals (my parents have like 5 cats and 6 rabbits and 1 dog now) and we have 2 cats, 3 dogs, and 6 dwarf bunnies (I wouldn't mind giving them to new homes but hubby loves animals) and we are having our 6th baby!! Trust me, our house if full (all our animals are outdoors other then the cats that sneak in) I've always heard that if your children are raised around animals (those that can be) they are less likely to have allergies to them (I have no allegies to any animals and either do my children)

I have 2 cats but no small kids around. My orange cat doesn't like to be bothered by anyone. My black cat lovessss my nephew who's 4. You've just got to teach your kids to be nice to them and everything should be fine. I grew up with animals and I'm a huge animal lover now!

My cat chewy is a 15 lbs ball of fluff. In my old apartment, there was a 3 year old little girl who lived across the hall. I had taken chewy out on a leash and he met her in the hall way. It came to pass that any time the neighbors opened there door or he heard the little girl, he'd run to the door & cry to be let out to see his friend. :)

The only thing to worry about when it comes to cats is they will try to cuddle with the baby and they could suffocate them. Not all cats will do this some cats will distance themselves or if your cat is just a laid back cat doesn't really like attention or something. My 2 love to cuddle so I wouldn't let mine around the baby unless I'm around because I know how mine are. But my cats aren't going anywhere and neither are my dogs. As long as you watch your animals and make sure their not laying on the baby or on their face they'll be fine.

I personally hate animals at this current stage of my life (I like other peoples', just do NOT want one of my own lol), so I'd say no lol.

My sister and my mom have cats, and my daughter always gets really excited around them because we don't have one, and she's really rough with them because she wants to love them so much lol. She'd probably do better if we had our own or were around them more, but I am not getting an animal while living in an apartment, there's barely enough room for me to not want to go crazy, I couldn't do that to an innocent animal.

Watch the cat(s) with young children  for a while.  Also my opinion on dogs as well. But if you car had it's claws still you can always get claw caps. Which is what I plan on doing to both of our cats if we ever have a kid. I know our male is ok around children but our female is scared of everything so we would need to watch her closely. You also dont the child to hurt the cat either so you just need to watch both of them.

I have 3 cats 2 are 16 yrs old and the other is 14 I've had them since before my children came and they just don't interact with my children much they don't bite and they don't have front claws so they don't scratch.
