Can progesterone delay your period?

Jessica
I just started taking progesterone suppositories this cycle and I'm suppose to take them til I either start my period or get a positive hpt. Well I'm two days late and I haven't gotten a positive. Could the progesterone be delaying my period, or keeping me from getting a positive?

The drop in progesterone is what signals your period to start, so if you're taking progesterone supplements, you won't ideally start AF until you stop taking the supplement. I had to take progesterone last year to jump start my period which was over 2 months late. I took the pill for ten days , started 2 days later. It's usually prescribed by a doctor and they tell you how long to take it. It's also used for women with a progesterone deficiency in order to prevent miscarriage.

Yes mine is to prevent miscarriage. I finally called my doctor and they told me to take it until my period was two weeks late. If I hadn't started or gotten a bfp by then I was suppose to stop taking it. She finally showed her face yesterday!

The absence of progesterone is what signals your period to start. I was prescribed progesterone to jump start my period. I took it for 10 days and my period started 2 days after it was through.

My first round I took it for 10 days and period came about 5 days later. This time I took it for 10 days and my period started the last day of taking it. I am using it to trigger periods too

My dr was going to prescribe me progesterone to START my period after a D&C, so my thoughts would be that it would not delay your period.

I'm taking it so that if/when I get pregnant I don't have another mc. But I do believe that it won't delay my period if you guys are taking it to trigger your periods. Now back to why am I late lol

Im in the same boat you were in when you posted this, give me some hope. What happened? Did you have to stop taking the progesterone?

I'm using it to jump start my period as well! Had a miscarriage at 6 weeks in April of this year & haven't had a period since then. Hopefully this works for all of us! :)

A progesterone and oil shot will jumpstart your period.  But a progesterone supliement by itself will delay your period a few days.
