Doctor Appointment Question? Heartbeat

I just had my first appointment this week, everything was great. Now, my next appointment is in 4 weeks, I'll be 12 weeks along at that point. The doctor said I won't get another ultrasound until 18-20 weeks. My question is, do they still listen for a heartbeat on the appointments in between now and then? 
I just want to make sure everything is ok when I go in. My sister had a miscarriage with no symptoms at all. She didn't know until they did her first ultrasound. 
This is my very first pregnancy, so I'm just not sure.

Like your sister, I also had a miscarriage with no symptoms at all, and also found out at my 8 week ultrasound. I'm now pregnant again and saw the baby and heart beat at my 8 week ultrasound. They told me I wouldn't have another ultrasound until 18-20 weeks. I'm so happy I saw the baby, but am still nervous I could miscarry again like before. I had an appointment with by obgyn earlier this week for a pap. I asked him if I could have another ultrasound before 18 weeks and he scheduled one at 12 weeks :)

They checked for the heartbeat at each of my appointments with my first baby! It's so fun and reassuring that they do that.

They should check every appointment with their doppler. My first appt my dr did an ultrasound at 6 weeks to confirm pregnancy and we saw heartbeat on ultrasound. When I went Monday...which was 10 weeks....he didn't do ultrasound but we did hear baby heartbeat on doppler. So I'm guessing if u don't get ultrasound you still should be able to hear heartbeat on doppler n office

I've heard they check for the heartbeat at every appointment. I am also wondering the same thing. I saw my baby's heartbeat at 8 weeks but was told I won't hear it until my next appointment. It can't come soon enough!

Great question! I am wondering the same! My first ultrasound was at 8 weeks and my next isn't until 16 weeks. My next appt is at 12 with no ultrasound, but will I get to hear the heartbeat so I know everything is still okay?
