Hysterectomy?

Question

Have any women gotten a hysterectomy when they were < 30? I'm inly 18, but I've had ATROCIOUS, I-want-to-die periods ever since mine started (around 10 or 11). I've always had to miss school or work because I physically couldn't get out of bed or I'll start crying because the pain is too much. Not only that, but my flow is so ridiculously heavy! I'll have to wear super plus tampons with heavy flow pads and change every hour or so just to make sure I'm not leaking. This is past the point of annoyance. My period is controlling my life. I'm going to get an IUD on Tuesday, but if that doesn't work, in the time that I have it, I'm going to go back to considering getting the hysterectomy. Would you guys make the leap to get the hysterectomy?

Side note: I'm not too worried about not being able to have children as I've always wanted to adopt and foster children.

Well if you have exhausted all other options, I wouldn't say a hysterectomy is a huge leap! It sounds like youve done everything you can and this would be a last resort. Hopefully you can find a doctor to perform it because I know a lot of doctors won't even do tubal ligation for women under 30 with no kids but since you have different circumstances, hopefully you can find someone to do it! Birth control is supposed to help women with bad periods. A hysterectomy is a HUGE leap especially for such a young age, and it's a major surgery, not some little outpatient procedure. I'd try a few kinds of birth control first if I were you, just to see which is the best.

My mom had a hysterectomy when she was 20 due to cervical cancer. I had some signs at 12, but they put me on birth control and everything was fine. I'm now 21 and have a son and have no issues or signs of cancer.

This sounds like my cousin, she is exactly the same but she is now 33 and has 4 children, doctors still refuse to touch her as she's still young, I hope you find a solution!! Good luck x

I have wanted one for a while. I have tried just about every birth control there is. I haven't had terrible periods however I know I do not want children. And no I will not change my mind thank you. I did have the implant, nexplanon. Loved it. I did not have periods while on it until right at the 3 yr mark when it was due to be removed. I have changed to Paraguard for the length of time it is effective and since I don't have a huge issue with my periods. Insertion was awful for the iud but I'm staying optimistic. The nexplanon insertion and removal was fine. You are lidocained anyway so you do not feel it.

I dont think they would do a hysterectomy because you have a bad period every month esp not at 18... Take the pill its supposed to help and exercise through every period it makes the excruciating pain tolerable.  You are only 18 in 5-10 yrs you may very well want children of your own.
