Skip the baby cereal?

Baby girl turned 4 months on the 12th and because of work, I've been struggling with pumping and having enough milk for her while im away. I was told that even though its sometimes better to wait until 6 months, you can start letting baby try baby food and or cereal around 4 months. Has anyone else in the March group started feeding their baby either cereal, puree food or both? If you have why did you start with the one you did? Have you had any issues? How much food do you feed besides breastmilk/formula? Do you feed only one at each feeding session or do you do one after the other?

We started with with sweet potato this morning and she only had a few bites. It was mainly just for her to try it and see how she reacted to it.
