Cone biopsy vs leep

In 2014 I had a leep procedure right before getting pregnant with my son. It hurt so bad. I could smell my burning cervix and I saw her take it out. I was mortified and almost passed out. Before that paps and colposcopies didn't really hurt. After having my son I had a pap and it came back normal. I went again in 3 months and it was at a stage 2. Fastforward to 6 months ago, I had a pap and then a colposcopy and they hurt so bad but they said they wanted to wait to see if it got better or worse. I just had another pap then colposcopy and it's at a stage 3. They told me they were debating on doing the leep procedure again or doing the cone biopsy. Have any of you ladies had the cone done before? Or better yet have any of you had both and can tell me the difference as far as recovery. My doctor already told me either way he will put me under to do it. I'm just afraid of what I'm going to feel after I wake up if they decide to do the cone.
