Travel system vs. ??

Question

I am so confused about what to do about car seat/stroller. Right now we are registered for a car seat/stroller "travel system" but it is my understanding the car seat portion is mostly just for young infants... So does that mean we'd have to buy something else in a few months? This is what I'm currently registered for. Thanks for advice/comments!

My son out grew his infant seat at 8 months. His head was an inch from the shell top. Here's how you go.

Infant seat- first year rear facing only

Convertible seat- can typically be used from birth to 80+ pounds. In rear facing mode fully reclined for up to 30ish lbs. Then you sit it up, and rear face until at least 2yo, but there are requirements to turning them forward. (Backwards is always safer with in weight/height limit for seat) Then the convertible will go forward facing using harness until height/weight and age are met. Then it usually can be used in a booster mode.   All seats differ though, read pamphlet well!

You don't technically need an infant seat, but they are nice when the baby is little. We aren't spending a bunch on the infant seat because it will be used briefly. I will go all out on our convertible though.

The travel system is nice because infant seat clicks into the stroller. Once the infant seat's outgrown the stroller can be used all on its own.

I got the same system. We love it. I also registered for the next car seat. Your gonna want a carrier for the first few months.

Depends on the baby's size and growth rate but a lot of babies can fit in the infant seat until a year old or older. We have the Graco Snugride 35 seat and its height/weight maximums are over the average height/weight for a one year old. My LO is 89th percentile for height so I don't think we'll use it for that long, but to me the convenience of a carrier seat is well worth it even if we have to get a convertible seat before then.

We were going to get a travel system til I also recently learned that you can't get one with a convertible car seat, so we are buying them separately as we think it's really wasteful to buy one car seat and then get rid of it in a year, especially since we can buy a stroller used. :)

My son is 16 months and is just out growing his peg Perego 4.35 infant seat. I have the Diono raidian for once he finally out grows it. Look for a high weight and hight limit and it will last you a while.

That stroller should work until baby has outgrown it (5+yrs) and the car seat has a height/weight limit specific to that seat. When baby outgrows it you should move to a convertible car seat so baby can stay rear facing 😊
