Is my IUD falling out?!

So I was checking my IUD strings today and I noticed that there was a string-type object hanging really low, like half an inch from the opening of my vagina. I remember my IUD string being thicker, like a tampon string, but this string is thinner, like the plastic-y string price tags are attached with. I don't have any pain, and I couldn't feel any object hanging low in my vagina, but I have a higher cervix so I've never been able to feel it. I'm going to make an appointment with my gynecologist but I probably won't get in to see her for a while. Any of yall who have had your IUD fall out have a similar situation? I'm terrified. I don't want to accidentally pull it out.
