Pregnant at work?!

Question

I'm going to be 18 weeks in 2 days, and I have an interview today for a new job. Im just wondering at what point I should tell them I'm pregnant? I don't want it to affect me getting the job! I have 2 other little jobs on the side but it's just not cutting it money wise

I applied at a place where I used to work....stellar employee, excellent reviews, senior position, left on a good note but haven't heard anything regarding an interview. Corporate doesn't know I'm pregnant but I'm friends with a lot of the supervisors on Facebook so they do.

I also applied for a position that I am extremely qualified for & was contacted for an interview. I told them on the phone. I still had the interview (probably only so they couldn't be accused of discrimination), seemed to do well at the interview but have not heard anything regarding the job.

Employers with absolutely discriminate against you for being pregnant so if I were you I'd keep it to myself!

It really depends on the company and the group that you interview with.  We hired a woman who was 5 months pregnant, knowing that her maternity leave will coincide with the busiest time of the year too.  She is a good fit for our team.

With this said,  not all employers like this.  If you are not showing,  I wouldn't say anything at the interview.  As for letting your new employer know,  it all depends on whether you are showing or not.  You do not want them to figure it out before you day anything, it can come across as dishonest.

Honestly, I know it's scary but it's SO MUCH easier when they know and you don't have to hide it. I told my boss at 15 weeks and announced at 18, I've found that most of my coworkers support me and it's a relief not having to hide it anymore. It took forever to nut up and do it but let me tell you a huge weight was lifted when I did

There's no need for a potential employer to know you're pregnant until they actually offer you a position. They are supposed to be hiring you based your skill set, not your personal life. As someone that has worked in staffing for 15+ years, I would not disclose yet.

I recently found myself having to interview for several positions and I didn't tell any of them. I am now just over 20 weeks and I start my new job soon and I met and told my boss yesterday (she wasn't at my interview). Fortunately she is a young woman who has a three month of her own and was very understanding. I just wasn't showing at my interview yet and I didn't see any reason to ruin my chances. But I did make sure to tell her at the very first opportunity that I could.

I'm interviewing as well, I've been telling the recruiters on the phone even before my first in person interview. I do this because as an employee I would want the company to be equally as open with me. It has not been an issue. In fact most of the time everyone else wants to talk about their kids and how amazing it is and what great benefits packages they have. But I work in an office so it might be a different situation. But for me honesty is the best policy and I'm an open book.
