I need a question answered

I'm confused. All this time having irregular periods trying to get pregnant and cant. I went to the doctor just to find out nothing is wrong with me but just having irregular periods. So they stick me on birth control for 3 months. So if nothing is wrong why are my periods irregular and why haven't I gotten pregnant yet???
